The Mission of the Historical Society of Plainfield is to promote interest in history and to maintain and develop the Drake House Museum. The Museum, through its permanent collection and various programs, brings many facets of our heritage to Plainfield and the surrounding communities. Through special exhibits, the Historical Society expands its documentation of Plainfield's more recent history beyond the Drake/Harberger eras.

ALERT!
Volunteers Needed for Tours and Newsletter

The Historical Society of Plainfield is looking for members who want to offer their time and talents at Drake House, Plainfield's link to its colonial past!  Training on the artifacts and furnishings of the museum is available to those members who would like to share their love of history with the public by serving as museum guides.  The newsletter staff is also seeking volunteers to assist with researching, writing, and preparation of the quarterly newsletter, The Communique.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available for those with interests, talents and any available time to give to the Drake House Museum. A large corps of volunteers work behind the scenes to bring the public a variety of exhibits and special programs and to enhance their knowledge about the history and culture of the area.
For those interested in serving as museum guides, we offer extensive training on the artifacts and furnishings of the Drake House Museum.  There is also a need for volunteers to help in areas such as research and development of exhibits, collection maintenance, assistance with genealogical requests, telephone and writing jobs, and the preparation and coordination of seasonal historical programs and fundraisers.  Please contact us if you are interested in fulfilling a volunteer opportunity.
